How the peptide calculator works

Lyophilized peptide arrives as a dry powder. Adding bacteriostatic water turns it into a solution, and the strength of that solution depends entirely on how much water is added. Divide the milligrams in the vial by the millilitres of water and you have the concentration — for example, 10 mg in 2 mL is 5 mg/mL, or 5,000 mcg per mL.

To find the volume that contains a target amount, divide the target by that concentration. Using the same vial, a 250 mcg target works out to 0.05 mL, which is 5 units on a U-100 insulin syringe where 100 units equal 1 mL.

Choosing a reconstitution volume

There is no single correct amount of diluent. More water gives a weaker solution and a larger, easier-to-read draw; less water gives a stronger solution and a very small draw that is harder to measure accurately. Pick a volume that puts your intended measurement comfortably within the markings on the syringe you are using.

Handling and storage

Add the diluent slowly against the inside wall of the vial rather than directly onto the powder, and swirl gently instead of shaking. Keep reconstituted material refrigerated and protected from light.
